Joe’s multifamily experience began in 1989 when he purchased his first Seattle apartment, a duplex, while still attending college. This began what has led to over 32 years of multifamily investment, management and operations experience. He has sponsored over $750 million in profitable multifamily partnerships, successfully managed over $5 billion in assets and provided strategic investment and operational analysis for his local, national and institutional clientele. He is considered a multifamily expert and sought out speaker for conferences throughout the region.

Joe graduated with Cum Laude honors from Seattle University’s Albers School of Business in Finance with an Economics minor in 1990. He is the former Vice President, Executive Committee and Board of Directors member for the Washington Multifamily Housing Association. Former President of St. Catherine School Commission. Youth soccer, basketball, and baseball coach for 24 years. Active supporter of St Catherine Parish, Bishop Blanchet High School, Seattle University and ACC (Advocacy and Caring for Children).

Joe is a fourth generation Seattleite and resides there with his wife of 30 years, Erin, and their 3 children. When not spending time with his family, he can be found playing all kinds of sports or enjoying the outdoors.

Thayer credits his many years as an apartment broker, and later as the sales manager of a large multifamily brokerage firm, for irreplaceable knowledge gained while observing the successes and failures of the firm’s clients. Over the years, his most successful clients were always those who acquired and renovated well-located, older properties. Armed with this knowledge, Thayer founded Thayer Residential Inc. in 1981 with the sole focus on value-add apartment investing.

Since then, Thayer’s partnerships (including those sponsored by Thayer Manca Residential since 2013) have successfully acquired, repositioned and resold properties totaling more than half a billion dollars in a variety of locations from Alaska to Texas in booming economies and in deep recessions. To date, the firm’s partnerships have received pre-tax profits of more than $89,000,000* without a single capital loss.

Bruce is a Seattle native and an avid outdoorsman. Past and present interests include; mountaineering, martial arts, pocket billiards, writing and numismatics. Bruce and Connie Thayer have been married for 38 years and live in Bellevue, Washington. They are blessed with two children and two grandchildren.
